In late May 2020, we received a website inquiry for the production of tailor-made filter stockings designed for a biomass plant. This particular facility supplies heat to Westland through biomass combustion in a wood-fired boiler. The filter bags, crucial for filtering flue gases, are suspended over a steel basket. Given the high operating temperatures involved, the selected material for the filter bags is PTFE.
The following day, our field sales team visited the plant to collect an old bag filter and familiarize themselves with the setup. Once back at our office, we conducted a thorough assessment, measurement, and testing of the filter bag. Subsequently, we promptly provided a quotation for the delivery of 100 PTFE filter bags on the same day. The chosen PTFE material is capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 250 °C, and the fabric thickness has been optimized for efficient cleaning with air at 6 bar. The exterior is also suitable for lime spraying. Given that the system, and consequently the filter bag, operates 24/7 during the autumn and winter months, durability and reliability are paramount.
Despite challenges posed by the Corona crisis in sourcing PTFE materials, resulting in some production and delivery delays, our field service filter specialist successfully delivered the custom-produced filter stockings and accompanying support basket to the designated location. Initially utilized in a dedicated testing section, the batch will be subject to further orders if the testing proves successful and the filter material demonstrates resilience under high temperatures and pressures.
